Cardinal Levada has summoned Bishop Fellay of the SSPX to Rome on September 14 of this year. I will not go into the history of the SSPX and the recent SSPX-Roman discussions. Let us all pray that the meeting in September brings about an agreement between the SSPX and Rome, and that a juridical structure is supplied to the SSPX, and that doctrinal points of contention are cleared up.
The aftermath of Vatican II in regards to doctrine certainly has been a mess. Whether it was liberals in the Church twisting and torturing the documents of Vatican II to fit their agenda, or inherent weaknesses and obscurity in the Vatican II documents themselves, the SSPX-Rome discussions have the potential to yield great fruit by getting rid of obscurity in teachings.
For a history of the SSPX and their conflicts with Rome, a good site to peruse is Rorate Caeli, or the SSPX Website.
At any rate, I will be praying that God’s will be done – fiat voluntas tua.
Dad says that clarification of the documents (defining what is really being said) would be a very good thing! He feels that the theological experts who wrote the documents were deliberately ambiguous. Bless the Pope for taking on this important matter. Mom
