Bishop Richard Williamson, who is aligned with the Resistance movement (SSPX Resistance) has consecrated Father Jean-Michel Faure, also a former member of the Society of Saint Pius X, as a bishop.
Rorate Caeli has the story on this.
The SSPX website has the Society’s response.
I pretty much knew this was coming, due to His Excellency’s answer to a question at Saint Catharines, in Ontario, Canada in November last year (video below, of the whole Q&A). However, at the time, he had not given a date, just that (I’m paraphrasing) “I have given thought about it (ordaining bishops), so don’t be surprised that within the next ten years I ordain bishops. Of course, tomorrow is within the next ten years.”
I was saddened by the friction within the Society in 2012, as it was looking increasingly likely that there would be an agreement between Rome and the Society of Saint Pius X. I was praying that there would not be a split, yet there was. Though the SSPX is still very strong and growing after the split, with almost 600 priests.
